How House Call earns money — and how editorial stays upstream of it.

House Call is an independently operated editorial publication. We earn most of our revenue through affiliate partnerships — primarily insurance comparison, pet-care products, and a small number of veterinary services. This page explains how those relationships work, and the measures we take to keep our editorial independent of them.
How affiliate links work
Some links on this site are tracked. If you click one and make a qualifying action (a quote, a sign-up, a purchase), the partner pays us a commission at no extra cost to you. We mark these links in line and disclose them at the article level where they appear.
What we link to
- Pet insurance carriers — quotes and applications.
- In-home and Fear-Free veterinary services, where partner programs exist.
- Pet-care products we’ve genuinely evaluated against the editorial criteria stated in the piece.
- Books and reference material in the niche.
How affiliate links do not influence editorial
- Editorial decisions sit upstream of revenue decisions. The editorial team chooses what to cover, how to frame it, and what verdict to reach.
- Affiliate partners do not see content before publication. They don’t get drafts, don’t get veto, and don’t get edits.
- We cover products and services for which we have no affiliate relationship when they are the right answer for the reader.
- We will publish negative findings about partner products. Our value to readers depends on it.
- We do not accept paid placements, sponsored articles, or advertorial.
What we will not do
- Promote a clinic, carrier, or product because the affiliate payout is higher.
- Hide commercial relationships behind editorial language.
- Recommend something we wouldn’t recommend if no affiliate relationship existed.
